As long as there has been home video, there have been anime video releases. Beginning with the initial VHS and evolving into the modern DVD and Blue Ray formats, anime has held onto its share of the market. Today, fans are not held so tightly to the part of nonstop home video releases. The Internet and myriad on demand offerings have begun completely new avenues with which to dole out the amazement of Japanese animation.
Anime has always maintained an awesome place in the hearts of its adoring followers. However, even in its original Japan, it had a sort of stigma attached with it. Folks had figured that anime series were somehow not intelligent and were poorly made. Nevertheless, fresh anime fans could see beyond this irrational belief.
With the generation of home video, every available version of entertainment and documentary was quickly released. It is lucky that this was around the same period that Mobile Suit Gundam emerged on big time. Mobile Suit Gundam showed the Earth that Japanese animated television and films were not to be taken so calmly. The franchise surrounding Gundam continues to be a staple of anime film into the present age.
Unique video animation has been one of Japan’s most integral methods of unveiling anime. While right-to-video unveilings are standardly seen as a sign of disappointment, in Japan, original video anime is well praised. To rent out all this stuff by the hour, it cost $500-$1,000 per hour to edit. A thirty second spot could easily take ten hours to edit, even a relatively simple one. That’s ten grand just for one step in the production of something that lasts half a measly minute!
Ouch!
We’ve got it great compared to that. Today, ten grand is More than enough to buy a total system and all the software you’d ever need to edit a lifetime of shows.
Computer editing is loads of fun and the creative possibilities are endless.
